After 25 years of military service, she has certainly aimed high in career pursuits. Today April is a Physician Assistant in dermatology, but the flight path was a winding one.
She began her medical career as an administrations clerk and emergency room technician at Hamilton Air Force Base in California. As a non-commissioned officer she served as an ER shift and lead the Family Practice Clinic, Dermatology Clinic, and the Maternity Suite at various Air Force bases. She also taught EMT classes at Odessa College in Texas.
But it was her experience as a supervisor for a busy dermatology clinic at the USAF Regional Hospital at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska where she found her passion. "The physician amazed me at his ability to diagnose internal malignancy by lesions on the skin - I was hooked! What he taught me I still use today in my practice".
Today, April Ethridge has logged more than three decades in the field including more than 30 years as a PA.
April has been married to her husband for over 43 years and has two grown children, four grandchildren, two dogs and two cats.
