What Causes Psoriasis?

Normally, T cells help protect your body against infection and disease. However, in the case of Psoriasis, T cells become so active that they trigger other immune responses and cause inflammation. The inflammation in turn causes the skin to shed too rapidly and pile up on the surface before it has a chance to mature. What should normally happen in 30 days now happens every 3 to 4 days.

Plaques usually itch or feel sore and can interfere with basic functions such as walking, sleeping or self-care. In some cases, plaques that appear on hands or feet can prevent patients from working, playing sports or managing daily tasks.
