Ronald D. Shiell, M.D.

Dr. Ronald Shiell loves a good challenge. While serving as chief of the dermatology division at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, he taught students pursuing a career in medicine. At the same time, he was appointed director of Mohs micrographic surgery, establishing an all-new Mohs surgery center for the university.

His enthusiasm for challenge is the reason he chose a career in the medical profession, particularly dermatology. “Dermatology encompasses all of medicine: pediatrics, infectious diseases, geriatrics, surgery, and more. It’s also about listening to patients, researching complex problems, then finding solutions.”

Perhaps his favorite challenge, however, is one he shares with his wife, an endocrinologist, in raising their family. With two young children at home, Dr. Shiell finds most of his spare time is spent reading stories and playing with his children. “It’s amazing the joy you can get out of watching your children have fun, evolve and grow.”
