Alan M. Ruben, M.D.

Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Alan M. Ruben, MD completed both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Medical Doctorate from Tulane University, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following his formal education, Doctor Ruben completed a rotating internship at The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and a dermatology residency at the University of Southern California, located in Los Angeles, California.

Dermatology appealed to Doctor Ruben because of its unique visual orientation. While most clinical specialties diagnose and treat diseases through x-rays or laboratory tests, dermatology utilizes direct visualization as its primary method of investigation. Doctor Ruben also enjoys the fact that dermatology deals with a broad spectrum of medical and surgical conditions and he has always greatly enjoyed working with patients of all ages.

During his time in the medical field, over 40,000 individual patients have entrusted Doctor Ruben with their dermatologic care. He has served as a clinical instructor of Dermatology at Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine as well as at several family practice and internal medicine residency programs. Doctor Ruben is honored to be a member of the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society, a group of about 200 United States Dermatologists in which membership is by invitation only. In 2004 he was asked to serve as the Scientific Program Chairman for the annual meeting of that society.

In his spare time Doctor Ruben is an avid reader and enjoys gardening, travel, and exercise.
